WHEN LIVERPOOL SIGNED Andriy Voronin on a free transfer in 2007, they sat back content that a marvellous piece of business had been done to secure the Ukraine and Bayer Leverkusen striker.

It didn’t quite work out as either party had planned as Voronin lumbered from one game to the next, never quite showing enough skill or athleticism to make an impact on the big stage.

Since leaving Merseyside for Hertha Berlin and, now, Dynamo Moscow he has enjoyed a slightly richer vein of goalscoring form.
