THE DÁIL has risen for the week – and won’t be coming back for 12 days.

TDs agreed this morning to give themselves next week off, restoring a parliamentary tradition that had been abandoned last year: a mid-term break to coincide with those of schools.

The proposal was passed unanimously.

The Seanad adopted a similar proposal, and will take 13 days off – getting back to work on Wednesday week.

The Dáil’s Public Accounts Committee will continue its business next week, however, as it undertakes a comprehensive review of public allowances.
