Villa close to appointing Lambert - reports

There are rumours this morning that the Scot has resigned as manager of Norwich City.

ASTON VILLA ARE set to fill their vacant managerial position with Paul Lambert, according to reports.

The West Midlanders are looking to replace Alex McLeish since his sacking at the end of the season and have already been rebuffed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Roberto Martinez.

Former Scottish international Lamber has taken the Canaries to two successive promotions since joining the club in 2009 and led them to a respectable 12th-place finish in the Premier League this season.

And with rumours rife this morning that he has handed in his notice at Carrow Road after being refused permission to speak with Villa officials, a deal could be brokered in the next 24 hours.
