ARSENAL STRIKER THEO WALCOTT is getting closer to signing a new deal with the club, just five months before his contract runs out.
The 23-year-old is the club’s record goalscorer this season with 14 strikes, but his future has been the subject of much speculation since the summer.
However, Walcott said after the 7-3 win over Newcastle that he wants to stay in North London and is hopeful of putting pen to paper soon.
“I’ve always said I wanted to stay and I enjoy playing for this team. Now we will just see what happens.
“I will continue to play my football and let the people who look after me and the club talk to each other and go from there.”
Talks are set to start in earnest on Wednesday, with Arsene Wenger emphatic about his desire to keep the former Southampton player.
“My desire is to extend his contract. He belongs here and hopefully we can do it,” said the Frenchman.
