ED O’DONOGHUE wasted no time in getting down to business after he completed a transfer to Aviva Premiership side Wasps today.
As details of the 29-year-old’s move were confirmed this morning, the former Leinster lock was already togging out for training with his new team-mates at the club’s Twyford Avenue training facility.
O’Donoghue’s decision to try his hand in England comes after just one disappointing season in blue. Previously with the Queensland Reds and Northampton, he moved south from Ulster in the summer of 2010 but struggled to break into the Leinster’s competitive second row, starting only six games in the Magners League.
The move to London and the opportunity to impress the club’s new Director of Rugby Dai Young was an opportunity too good to turn down, O’Donoghue admitted this morning.
“Wasps is a great club with a lot of history,” he said.
With a relatively new group of players and coaching staff and this is a great opportunity for me to be part of a club moving in a good direction.
“Ed has got a lot of experience in some quality rugby environments and he will be a good addition to the squad,” Young said.
Born in London and raised in Brisbane, O’Donoghue is eligible to represent Ireland and has already been capped three times at “A” level.
