WATCH: Cam Newton lands a 77-yard bomb on his NFL debut

It seems that the number one draft pick is settling in nicely.

STEPPING UP FROM college football to the NFL is not always an easy transition, particularly if you’re the number one draft pick.

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Cameron Newton showed no signs of nerves last night, passing for a monstrous 422 yards on his league debut at the Arizona Cardinals.

The 22-year-old threw two touchdown passes — including this 77-yard beauty to Steve Smith — and rushed for another, allaying any fears that Panthers fans might have about their new man.

Newton’s heroics weren’t enough to get Carolina off to a winning start however. A 89-yard punt return from Patrick Peterson in the fourth quarter gave the Cardinals a 28-21 win.
