NEED TO CATCH up? TheScore.ie brings you a round-up of today’s sports news…
Home
- If you are looking to get tickets to the All-Ireland hurling final replay then you will be pleased to know that the GAA has cut ticket prices for the game.
- Davy Fitzgerald and Clare hurling have been dealt a blow with the news that Podge Collins will only play for the Clare footballers next year.
- Rory McIlroy has said that his four-putt nightmares over the weekend should give hope to golfers everywhere because he is just like them sometimes. Think it’s fair to say that most golfers susceptible to four-putts can’t drive the ball 300+ yards though.
- The GAA has named the referee for the All-Ireland football final and Laois native Eddie Kinsella has gotten the gig.
Away
- A young, dynamic, Swiss go-getter threw his hat in the ring for the FIFA presidency today. Just kidding, Sepp Blatter is seeking a fifth term.
- A steward/male missile could face charges after almost taking the head off a female streaker during All Blacks vs Argentina.
- Ever played Road Rash? This bit of argy-bargy from the Vuelta a Espana will remind you of the retro computer game.
The best thing we shared
This video of Kilkenny fan Ritchie Ryan watching the All-Ireland final in Canada is the greatest thing I have ever watched. The best part is Ryan’s reaction as O’Dwyer stands over the last gasp free, “he doesn’t [have the distance] it’s 97m” followed by a loud “OH F**K” when the free is on it’s way.
This guy is a national treasure.
On the record
“Looking back on it now we were probably lucky to come away with a point all in all.
“Letting the result slip away at the end was disappointing. We went over there for the win and probably didn’t deserve it, but at the same time playing badly we just let it slip away at the end.”
Fergus McFadden was blunt when assessing Leinster’s poor performance in their 22-20 defeat to Glasgow in their Guinness Pro12 opener.
Where we were today
At their press conference today, our intrepid reporter Sean Farrell tried to find out if Leinster had any skeletons in their closet. Alas, they only use it to store equipment.
The fixture list
- There two games in the League of Ireland tonight as Sligo Rovers host Bohemians and Derry City travel to Dundalk.
- Week one of the NFL wraps up with a Monday Night Football doubleheader: New York Giants @ Detriot Lions and the San Diego Chargers @ Arizona Cardinals.
- There are more Euro 2016 qualifiers on at the moment with the pick of them being England’s visit to Switzerland.
- The US Open final is tonight and it is the first Grand Slam decider since the Australian Open in 2005 not to feature Djokovic, Nadal or Federer. Marin Cilic takes on Kei Nishikori at Flushing Meadows.
Showbiz, baby!
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel was a great shot-stopper but he is evidently a very gifted musician too. Well, maybe it isn’t that evident but I am no music critic either.
“International football is basically just Everton now.”
