Wenger confirms Henry's return to Arsenal

The 34-year-old will join up with his old club on a two-month loan deal according to the Gunners boss.

THIERRY HENRY will play for Arsenal again after manager Arsene Wenger confirmed that a short-term loan deal has been put in place.

The 34-year-old former French captain spent eight years at the London club to become their all-time leading marksman with 226 goals before departing for Barcelona in the summer of 2007.

He has since spent two season at MLS side New York Red Bulls but as their season finished up in November and doesn’t kick-off again until March, the former European Golden Boot winner is available to join another club on a temporary two-month deal.

Arsenal are in desperate need of reinforcements for talisman Robin van Persie, who has a history with injuries, as Maroune Chamakh and Gervinho are heading off to January’s African Cup of Nations with Morocco and the Ivory Coast respectively.

While the Gunners will have to agree an insurance package with the Red Bulls, his American owners have given the move the all-clear.

At his press conference, The Daily Telegraph’s Jeremy Wilson reported Wenger as saying: “For two months, it will happen.

“He has still class, pace and quality. He is here to help the club he loves. But we must not put too much pressure on him. He is 34.”

According to reports in The Daily Mail, Henry will wear the No12 shirt, the number he wore for France, as Theo Walcott has his old No14 these days.
