AS IT HAPPENED

As it happened: West Ham v Liverpool, FA Cup, fourth round replay

A fifth-round tie against Blackburn awaits the winner.

Hello and welcome to tonight’s liveblog.

Liverpool travel to the Boleyn Ground with a fifth-round fixture against Blackburn Rovers on the line.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will be back tonight after appendicitis forced him to miss Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Sunderland at the weekend.

Ireland’s Joey O’Brien is expected to make his first start of the season with new signing Sam Byram cup-tied and Carl Jenkinson out for the rest of the campaign.

Both sides will be looking to put disappointing weekends behind them tonight — Liverpool threw away a two-goal lead at Anfield to draw with Sunderland while West Ham lost at Southampton.

Better news for you Liverpool fans out there is the fact that Philippe Coutinho, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge could feature tonight.

Let’s hope we get a better game than the drab 0-0 draw 10 days ago, when Ireland goalkeeper Darren Randolph’s performance was the only thing worth shouting about.

Team news to follow shortly.

Lucas Leiva will captain the Reds tonight. Coutinho comes straight back into the team with Sturridge and Origi on the bench.

Slaven Bilic names a strong side. Randolph and O’Brien are both included.

Plenty of attacking talent on show tonight at least — this one kicks off at 7.45pm and can be seen on BT Sport 2. Coverage starts at 7.15pm.

Jurgen Klopp reveals he is now pain-free.

“Maybe I had a bit of luck, usually it takes a few more days [after an appendix operation],” he said on BT.

“I would like to say I have big pain but I am still here — but I have no pain! Maybe it is a good combination, a British doctor and a German patient.

“I feel really good and I don’t always celebrate at a crazy level. Sometimes I am really cool. I know what I have to do.”

Get your predictions in now or forever hold your peace …

How do you see this one going?

Mignolet to have a mare? Sturridge to come on and get injured? Payet to shine, as usual? We’ll find out in the next two hours or so.

Just 10 minutes to kick-off. Does Klopp ever stop laughing?

Jon Super Jon Super

We’re under way at the Boleyn Ground, bubbles everywhere as usual.

This has started at a decent pace. Both sides looking to get it down and play.

Liverpool have had the better of the early exchanges, Smith looking lively out left and Teixeira with some tidy touches linking up play around the middle of the park.

Lucas has lined up at centre-half. Ibe looking lively, Benteke not so much.

Cresswell with a stunning cross into the box for the home side but Mignolet reads it well. The Hammers left-back has impressed this year.

Wand of a left foot on him.

Teixeira showing some really classy touches at the moment which win his side a corner. A goalmouth scramble ensues but Randolph eventually gets it away.

The Ireland goalkeeper is called into action again from the next corner and he saves well at his near-post from Benteke.

West Ham are in the ascendancy at the moment. Their speed is starting to cause Liverpool problems.

Noble is getting on the ball a bit more and starting to control midfield.

CHANCE for Liverpool. Great break down the lift after Teixeira finds him with a neat pass. But Benteke can’t get himself on the end of the Australian’s teasing cross. Better from Liverpool.

Ibe was also guilty of wasting an opportunity there, after Benteke missed his cue.

Remember, penalties are an option tonight.

Smith is proving a real thorn in O’Brien’s, and West Ham’s side. Teixeira and Smith have now combined on three occasions. This time Smith’s cross is blocked and Teixeira fires the ricochet well wide.

This is starting to liven up a bit more. Both sides attacking in waves.

WOODWORK — Really sloppy stuff from Kiwi Winston Reid. His awful clearance is picked up Coutinho. The Brazilian plays in Benteke who cleverly completes the one-two. However, Coutinho’s left-footed strike pings off the near post.

The resulting corner creates another great opportunity for the big Belgian but Randolph is up to the challenge.

Still goaless, somehow.

POST AGAIN!!

Payet hits a beaut of a free-kick off the right-hand post. Mignolet well beaten but the Belgian stopper makes up for it with a stop from Kouyate. You’d expect him to make that though.

Free-kick for West Ham on the edge of the area for a push by Ibe on Kouayate. This is dangerous.

I take it back — Mignolet looked like he got a slight touch on the original free-kick, making it a decent initial stop.

HT: West Ham 1 Liverpool 0

West Ham 1 (Antonio ’45) Liverpool 0

GREAT FINISH by Antonio. Valencia stands up a left-wing cross. It takes a slight deflection but Antonio keeps his eye on it and buries a volley across Mignolet and into the top corner. You don’t stop those.

That came right on the stroke of half-time, big second half to come.

This is the goal that’s separating the teams.

West Ham 1 Liverpool 1 (Coutinho ’48)

We’re back under way for the second spell now.

Great stuff by Coutinho — The midfielder rolls a free-kick into the bottom corner from the edge of the area. Benteke did will to win it in the first place.

Great response from Klopp’s side. Game on.

Sturridge is about to come on for Liverpool. Deep breaths all around Liverpool right now.

CHANCES for Benteke but West Ham manage to get two crucial blocks in.

The atmosphere has really picked up at the Boleyn Ground. West Ham are having the better of theings at the moment.

Origi also on. Teixeira and Coutinho were the ones taken off by Klopp.

CHANCE — Benteke makes a great run but holds on to the ball a bit too long. By the time he plays in Sturridge, the returning England striker has strayed offside. Right call.

This is end-to-end stuff, it’s turned into a cracking game.

Stoppage in play, Kouyate looks like he’s out cold after picking up a head knock.

Antonio has been everywhere tonight. Serious engine that fella.

Kouyate doesn’t look like he’ll be allowed to continue by the medical staff.

Carroll is on, 15 minutes to go.

His clash with Flanagan looked innocuous, just your standard 50-50 in the air. Medical staff are on now with a stretcher but Kouyate is moving, groggily however.

Andy Carroll is getting ready for the Irons.

Sturridge has looked pretty sharp for a man who hasn’t played in so long. Showing some tidy feet and good link-up play already.

Although surely this is set up for a Carroll winner.

Free-kick for Liverpool just outside the area. Benteke and Sturridge over it.

It’s the Belgian who takes it and he strikes it with venom. It clears the wall but isn’t near enough to the corner and Randolph makes a good stop. Another good outing from the Ireland international so far.

Not such good news for his Irish team-mate however, as Joey O’Brien is currently receiving treatment in what is his first start since August.

He looks demoralised as he is replaced by Victor Moses.

CHANCE — Payet breaks at speed after Origi gives it away. The Frenchman finds Valencia at the back post but his header goes high and wide. Better from Payet, he’s been quiet today by his usual high standards.

CHANCE — Noble on the half-volley from outside the area tries his luck. But Mignolet’s positioning is good and he deals with it relatively comfortably.

EIGHT minutes of injury time to come.

It’s getting a bit scrappy and nervy, still 90 seconds to play.

So after 180 minutes of this FA Cup tie we still have no winner. Extra-time and possibly penalties to come. Don’t go anywhere.

FT: West Ham 1 Liverpool 1 – extra-time to come

And we’re back under way… again

For those who missed Coutinho’s free-kick – here you go.

GOOD STOP — Noble forces a good Mignolet save from range. West Ham look the much stronger at the moment.

HALF-CHANCE — Liverpool clear a Payet corner and Cresswell swings wildly as the ball drops out the sky. He gets nowhere near the goal with that one though, to ironic cheers from the away fans.

OUTSTANDING STOP by Randolph. Only moments earlier Benteke fired wide. This time, he is put through one-on-one but Randolph makes a terrific stop with his legs.

James Milner about to come on for Liverpool.

18-year-old Chirivella, who was making his first start for the club, is the player withdrawn.

Benteke misses another chance, this one was difficult though. He rises highest in the box but can’t get above the ball.

Just 15 minutes away from penalties now, will we see a winner.

Randolph is having another excellent game for the Hammers.

Halftime, extra-time: West Ham 1 Liverpool 1

Benteke fires well wide from distance. It’s just not going right for him tonight.

CLOSE — Sturridge goes close from range. Great strike. He’s coming into this more and more.

Only moments later he lays on a chance for Origi but the youngster blazes wide. 10 to go.

OUCH — Valencia goes down after a hefty block from Lucas. That looked sore, it looked like Lucas caught him with his studs on the follow through.

Sure what’s another stoppage at this rate eh?

Great run by Sturridge, he beat two West Ham defenders with a mazy run but is thwarted by a third. He’s a joy to watch at full flight.

West Ham are looking drained, they get caught too narrow and Sturridge nearly flicks a Brannagan cross into the net but it a West Ham leg diverts it behind. Late drama here.

Valencia is back on the field and able to continue, albeit with a limp.

West Ham 2 Liverpool 1 (Ogbonna ’120)

FT, ET: West Ham 2 Liverpool 1

Wow, what a finish to an entertaining cup clash.

Just when we were getting ourselves ready for penalties. Liverpool are dumped out of the FA Cup. Thrilling stuff.

Report and reaction to follow.
