Westmeath wait on referee's report before appealing alleged racism

The Lake County are hoping to overturn Israel Ilunga’s sending off in Saturday’s Leinster MFC semi-final.

WESTMEATH WILL WAIT to read the referee’s report from Saturday’s Leinster MFC semi-final before taking any action into an alleged incident of racial abuse.

The Lake County defeated rivals Meath at Pairc Tailteann despite having full back Israel Ilunga sent off five minutes into the second half.

Ilunga was red carded by referee John Hickey for an incident off-the-ball and manager Tommy Carr is set to be without him for next week’s final against Kildare.

However, according to reports, the incident may have occurred as a result of the player retaliating to being racially abused by an opponent.

While Westmeath are expected to make an appeal, a spokesperson told TheScore.ie they will not be making any further comment on the matter until they read Hickey’s report, which is due later today.
