Lee Keegan and Westport savour first Connacht title win against Ballinamore

The Connacht Junior Football title is also going back to Mayo after Louisburgh beat Creggs of Roscommon.

FOOTBALLER OF THE Year Lee Keegan added a long-awaited title to his collection as Westport won the Connacht Intermediate Club Football Championship for the first time in their history.

Keegan was joined by inter-county team-mate Kevin Keane as Westport ran out five-point winners against Sean O’Heslins Ballinamore, 1-9 to 0-7.

Ballinmore were bidding to become the first Leitrim side to win provincial honours at intermediate level but came up short in Páirc Sean MacDiarmada.

Westport, who agonisingly lost by a point in the 2009 final against Galway’s Naomh Anna in 2009, continued a recent trend of Mayo dominance which seen the county’s clubs win five of the last six Connacht titles.

There was joy too for Mayo at junior level as Louisburgh beat Creggs of Roscommon by four points, 2-9 to 0-11, in Sunday’s Connacht final.
