Wexford stay in the hunt for promotion with victory over 14-man Laois

Gary Moore and James Tomkins grabbed the goals for Wexford.

Wexford 2-21
Laois 1-18

WEXFORD ARE STILL in with a chance of claiming promotion from Division 1B after seeing off Laois by six points this afternoon in Wexford Park.

Wexford head to Cork, who are currently top of the table, next Sunday afternoon and must claim victory if they are to be in with a chance of landing that coveted promotion spot.

Wexford led 1-4 to 0-4 midway through the opening period with Gary Moore found the net. By the interval Wexford were still in front as they held a 1-10 to 0-10 advantage and Laois had been reduced to 14 men after Charlie Dwyer was sent-off.

Laois fought back into contention in the second-half with John Purcell grabbing a 43rd minute goal that helped them draw level.

But Wexford strung together some vital points and their second goal arrived late on from James Tomkins to help them secure the spoils.
