What we learned this weekend...

What a weekend that was. Here’s what we took from a few days on the couch – apart from a few extra pounds on the waistline.

1. Rory McIlroy has a lot more class than Tiger

The former world No 1 had every reason to be happy. He made a wonderful fist of regaining the green jacket and reminded the world that he hasn’t gone away you know. Then he gave this ridiculous interview:

Rory, in contrast, endured the greatest trauma of his career in front of millions and he was gracious enough to give a mature, good-natured reaction to the American reporter in which he said he hopes the experience ‘builds character’. He made a lot of friends.

He then tweeted this:

2. Everything I ever thought about Robbie Savage is wrong

Last night the agent provocateur of Welsh football completely redeemed himself with a comedy analysis of Joey Barton’s performance against Aston Villa on MOTD 2.

The Newcastle midfielder, of course, last week insisted he was the best English midfielder to French football magazine So Foot.

So, with a giggling Lawro watching on, Savage picked apart Barton’s middling display with glee – after he produced and reiterated the offending quotes.

3. Paul Galvin is the next Peter Alliss

As we watched the Masters from behind our nail-less fingers, this insight popped into our Twitter stream from your friend and mine, Kerry football fashionista Paul Galvin.

He is right though.

4. Marty can cook

RTÉ’s GAA reporter and presenter Marty Morrissey appeared on The Restaurant last night. And didn’t he do well.

Here’s the menu which earned him four deserved stars.

5. Juninho can still hit them

He may be in a mickey mouse league now, but they all count.
