THE SERIES MAY be gone.
But Ireland will not be found wanting for spirit when they play the third and final Twenty20 international against Bangladesh in Stormont at 4pm this afternoon.
Speaking directly after Ireland’s narrow single-run defeat to Bangladesh, William Porterfield tried his best to accentuate the positives for an irish side who improved their performance by a full 70 runs between game one on Wednesday and last night’s game two.
“We played pretty well throughout the whole innings, we paced it well. We did everything right we just came up short.” Said the left-hander.
“We feel we were on top there for a lot of the game. We were in control for most of the game and to lose by one run is pretty disappointing.
“The other day we were a good 30% off where we want to be and that was the most disappointing thing for ourselves.
Shortcomings
“To an extent we put that right today. There’s still a couple of things we came up short on and it was just one of those games: you’re going to find one run anywhere – a couple with the ball and a couple with the bat that we should have caught up on.”
The defeat means Bangladesh have won the three-game series, but the determination in Porterfield’s voice was clear as he declared that Ireland’s improvement should give the visitors plenty of ‘food for thought’.
“We were coming her today fully expecting to put in a big performance and the the right result, coming up a run short is disappointing – but we’ll be coming back tomorrow looking for another win.”
