A man said women are 'incapable' of understanding Goodfellas, women responded

*facepalm*

GOODFELLAS IS ONE of the most iconic films of the 1990s and it celebrates its 25th anniversary next week.

To commemorate its anniversary, the New York Post’s Kyle Smith wrote an article appraising the film and explaining why women are incapable of enjoying it.

Hang on, what?

After recounting a date who once told him that she didn’t like Goodfellas, Smith concludes that it’s because Goodfellas is a man’s film and women are biologically incapable of truly getting it.

Way down deep in the reptile brain, Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), Jimmy the Gent (Robert De Niro) and Tommy (Joe Pesci) are exactly what guys want to be: lazy but powerful, deadly but funny, tough, unsentimental and devoted above all to their brothers — a small group of guys who will always have your back. Women sense that they are irrelevant to this fantasy, and it bothers them.

He says the film is nothing like Sex and the City whereby the women are expected to be “sympathetic and supportive as each describes her problems”. In Goodfellas, meanwhile, the guys “endlessly bust each other’s balls” and Smith thinks that isn’t appealing.

As one might expect, it hasn’t gone down well on Twitter.

But don’t go thinking that Kyle Smith is going to apologise any time soon…
