WORLD CUP FEVER is starting to take hold — but less than half of Irish people plan to watch the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

A new survey released today shows that 47% will tune at some stage over the next four weeks, while a diehard 5% plan to watch every single game (even Iran v Nigeria).

On the other hand, 31% say they will actively go out of their way to avoid watching any of the games.

There are set to be a few fierce battles for the remote control as well with a massive 96% of viewers planning to watch the games from the comfort of their own homes.

Just under one in four fans (24%) plan to watch at least one game in the pub.

The research, commissioned by Webloyalty, surveyed 1,523 Irish consumers last month.
