Would-be bombers jailed for Celtic campaign

Two men in their forties have received prison terms for sending parcel bombs to public figures and groups associated with Celtic FC, including manager Neil Lennon.

THE MEN RESPONSIBLE for constructing a number of parcel bombs designed to harm high-profile supporters of Celtic Football Club have each received prison terms of five years.

Ayreshire residents Trevor Muirhead, 44, and Neil Mackenzie, 42, conspired to build and deliver a number of potentially lethal packages to club manager Neil Lennon, former Scottish MP Trish Goodall, the late QC Paul McBride and members of expatriate republican organisation Cáirde na hÉireann.

The pair were initially charged with conspiracy to commit murder, a charge dismissed on the eve of the trial.

McKenzie also received a separate, 18-month sentence for harassing Lennon with a hoax bomb. His convictions are set to run concurrently.
