Young keen to pounce on Manchester City mistakes

“Any time they slip up and we can take advantage, then we will,” the England man promises.

ASHLEY YOUNG SAYS Manchester United are ready to capitalise on any slip-ups by Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.

Two classy strikes from the England international helped United to a crucial 3-1 win away to Tottenham on Sunday, and now the 26-year-old is convinced the Red Devils are capable of overtaking their local rivals, who currently hold a two-point lead at the summit of the table.

“Any time they slip up and we can take advantage, then we will,” Young said.  ”We’ll keep pegging them back. As Paul Scholes said the other day, we think we’ll have to win every game.

“So as long as we keep doing that, we’ll be OK. We’ll just concentrate on ourselves, take each game as it comes. We’ve just had two tough away games at Tottenham and Norwich. Every game between now and the end will be tough.”

The former Aston Villa forward endured a six-week spell on the sidelines over the Christmas and New Year period but is excited at the prospect of being in contention for silverware in his debut campaign at Old Trafford.

“I’m getting back to my best,” he said. “Any player is disappointed when he’s injured. I’ve needed to get myself back fit.  I’m ready to go and champing at the bit now. I want to play every game. We have to play each game as it comes but it’s exciting times.”
