'Very difficult' for Bastian Schweinsteiger to play for Man United again, says Jose Mourinho

What’s the next move going to be for the World Cup winner?

BASTIEN SCHWEINSTEIGER HAS a big decision to make.

With only days left before the transfer window closes, it’s clear that the German has no future at Manchester United.

Speaking at his Friday press conference, the club’s manager Jose Mourinho admitted that it’s very unlikely the 32-year-old will feature for the team this season.

“I think it’s very difficult to happen”, he said.

I’m not saying it’s impossible. I’m saying it’s very difficult. We have a decision completely made about Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick. We have five players for two positions. It’s very difficult that an opportunity will arrive.”

Mourinho, famously, works with 20 outfield players and three goalkeepers. This summer, he’s overseen the signings of four new players while United are still linked with a fifth – defender Jose Fonte.

Space is at a premium and Schweinsteiger, despite his experience and history of success, has struggled since arriving in Manchester – and even before that – because of injury.

Louis van Gaal, who converted him from a winger to a deep-lying midfielder at Bayern and who then brought him to United in the summer of 2015, publicly criticised Schweinsteiger twice during his debut season.

The Dutchman stated how he wasn’t the player he remembered from his time in Bavaria and later said he expected more from the World Cup winner.

So, what next for Schweinsteiger?

He stated earlier this week that United will be his last club in Europe – perhaps a come-and-get-me plea to Major League Soccer.

But in the short-term, what does he do? Play for the reserves for a season? Forced into exile like Victor Valdes?

Or will Bayern swoop in and bring him home?
