Ben Te'o one of seven uncapped players included in England squad

Eddie Jones’ side are preparing for Tests against South Africa, Fiji, Argentina and Australia.

ENGLAND HEAD COACH Eddie Jones has called up seven uncapped players, including former Leinster centre Ben Te’o, for his training squad ahead of the four Tests later this year.

Since the early World Cup exit under Stuart Lancaster, England have won all nine matches with Jones at the helm, including a Six Nations Grand Slam title and a 3-0 whitewash of Australia Down Under.

Jones’ side will face the Wallabies again in December, after meetings with South Africa, Fiji and Argentina.

Today, Jones named a 37-man squad for a training camp in Brighton next week, including several new faces.

Josh Beaumont, Sam Jones, Mike Williams, Nathan Hughes, Dan Robson, Te’o and Joe Marchant are the seven untried names, while Gloucester’s Ben Morgan gets his first call under Jones.

New Zealander Te’o moved to Worcester Warriors in the English Premiership at the end of last season having spent two years at Leinster, racking up 40 appearances for the province.

Te’o moved to Leinster from Australian rugby league, where he won the NRL with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2014 and also represented Queensland in State of Origin.

“There are some disappointed players, we’ve left some good ones out but it’s not the end of the road for them,” Jones said in a media conference.

“Consistency and development is key, I want to reward the existing players but develop the squad to push the current ones.

“At the World Cup in 2019 we will need to win seven games and we are going to need to push deep into our squad.”

Fly-half Owen Farrell was included, despite suffering from a back injury, and Jones was hopeful the Saracens 10 would soon be back in action.

“We can’t put a timeframe on Owen Farrell’s return, but he can recover quickly and I’m confident he can still play a part,” the coach said.
