KICK-OFF BETWEEN Burnley and Newcastle United was delayed by half an hour on Monday evening after the referee’s assessor collapsed in the tunnel.

Eddie Wolstenholme was taken to hospital still conscious, however the Premier League and referee Anthony Taylor made the decision to push kick-off back by 30 minutes until 8.30pm.

“Kick off at tonight’s game will be delayed by 30 minutes, due to a medical emergency in the players’ tunnel,” Burnley tweeted.

“Neither team or their staff are affected. The person involved has been taken to hospital in a conscious state.”

Wolstenholme was once a Premier League referee, but retired in 2003. The role of an assessor is to help in the all allocation of referees for fixtures and in providing referees with feedback on their performances.
