ERIC CANTONA HAS a rather unique way with words, and the Manchester United legend has offered his take on goings-on at Old Trafford.

With Jose Mourinho coming in for criticism as the Red Devils struggle for form and questions being asked of fading skipper Wayne Rooney, as well as high-profile acquisitions Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, all is not well at the Theatre of Dreams.

Cantona, though, has called for patience in a way only he can.

“It is only at the very end of the cattle market that you start counting the cow dung,” the iconic Frenchman said in his role as Eurosport’s ‘Commissioner of Football’.

Reading between the lines, he would appear to be suggesting that it is still too early in which to be passing judgement on a project which remains a work in progress. Cantona also urged Mourinho to “hang in there” as he endeavours to get his ideas across and bring the best out of a squad yet to perform at its true potential.

He added: “The special one, the Swedish one, the most expensive one, the one who stole my number, the one with the hair transplant. All these ones, they don’t make a whole yet. But give them a little credit… football is not a f****** science.

“Plus Mourinho’s nemeses Pep and Arsene are co-leading the Premiership. So I strongly doubt that Jose is going to give up. Hang in there, Jose! It could be worse. You could be coaching Sunderland, or Chaves in Portugal!”

United will get another opportunity to start turning the corner on Sunday when they travel to Swansea City for a fixture that presents them with the chance to secure a first Premier League victory in five attempts.
