Ronaldo hat-trick gets Blancos off to perfect start

The Portugal international struck twice from the penalty spot before heading a third after Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Rafa Benitez’s side.

CRISTIANO RONALDO STRUCK a second-half hat-trick to get Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign off to a perfect start against 10-man Shakhtar Donetsk.

After missing a good chance to open the scoring, Karim Benzema took advantage of a mistake from goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov to break the deadlock.

Shakhtar’s hopes of getting back into the game were hit as Taras Stepanenko was dismissed for a second bookable offence five minutes into the second half after bringing down Sergio Ramos.

And Ronaldo put the game to bed with two quickfire penalties before heading in from close-range to seal his hat-trick and eighth goal in two matches.
