YOUR RUGBY HIT du jour is here… but not on the person you might expect..

The unfortunate touch-judge Herve Gilard was wiped out during a pre-season “friendly” between reigning European champions Toulon and Monsieur Sexton’s Racing Metro 92.

Only a last ditch tackle by Bernard La Roux prevented Vincent Martin from putting down in the corner after a sweeping Toulon attack. Gilard, ever dutiful, got a little too close to the robust efforts of La Roux and took the business end of a flying elbow to the knee. Unable to continue, Gilard passed the flag to Chris Masoe for the final 10 minutes of the game, who, was called on once to raise it in favour of Racing.

Toulon eventually won the game 14-6.
