The first place in this year’s All-Ireland senior hurling final was up for grabs today as Cork and Galway squared off.

Welcome to Croke Park for today’s senior clash between Cork and Galway. Both teams are currently out on the field warming up and here’s all you need to know about this game.

Here’s the Galway team that was announced on Friday night. But we are expecting confirmation shortly of a change with James Regan (St Thomas) expected into the attack for Cyril Donnellan who has been hampered with an injury.

The parade is just taking place around Croke Park with Cork joining Galway now behind the Artane Boys Band. A good atmosphere building here with most of the lower stand tiers full of supporters. The upper decks of the Cusack Stand are also populated with a few supporters.

Galway 0-1 Cork 0-0: 1 mins – Dream start for Galway with Damien Hayes popping over a point after Brian Murphy miscontrolled the ball.

Galway 0-1 Cork 0-1: 2 mins – Cork draw level quickly courtesy of a Patrick Horgan pointed free.

Cork 0-2 Galway 0-1: 3 mins – Long range free by Anthony Nash breaks kindly for Cork wing-forward Jamie Coughlan and he bounds onto the ball before lobbing over a point.

Conor Lehane has a chance to point for Cork but is denied by an outstanding dispossession by Galway captain Fergal Moore who flicks the ball away expertly.

Niall Burke shoots wide for Galway from a good position. Players on both sides look nervous so far, committing basic mistakes.

Cork 0-3 Galway 0-1: 6 mins – Cork move further ahead with a fine point by Cian McCarthy but then Patrick Cronin spurns a good chance to score, firing wide from midfield.

Cork 0-3 Galway 0-2: 8 mins – Joe Canning grabs his first point of the day, converting a free for Galway.

Canning has another chance to point but goes for a goal from a close-range free and his shot is blocked. A poor decision by the Portumna star given the angle he was striking from.

Cork 0-4 Galway 0-2: 11 mins – Paudie O’Sullivan shows great composure for Cork as he takes the ball forward and picks off a nice point.

Cork 0-4 Galway 0-3: 12 mins – Joe Canning fires over a free for Galway after Niall Burke had been fouled.

Cork 0-4 Galway 0-4: 13 mins – James Regan ties the game with a point for Galway after the ball came loose to him following a few ferocious collisions around the middle as the teams challenged for possession.

Cork 0-5 Galway 0-4: 14 mins – Patrick Horgan edges Cork ahead with a pointed free after Galway’s Andy Smith was blown for over-carrying the ball.

Niall Burke has a chance to tie the game for Galway but screws his shot wide under pressure.

Cork 0-6 Galway 0-4: 17 mins – That is excellent play from Cork. Anthony Nash stops a Joe Canning shot from going over the bar at one end, Eoin Cadogan clears the ball and captain Patrick Horgan does brilliantly to field it before being fouled. The Glen Rovers man dusts himself down and slots over the free.

Galway 0-6 Cork 0-5: 19 mins – Back to a one-point game when Canning bangs over a free after Iarla Tannian was fouled by Patrick Cronin.

Cork 0-7 Galway 0-5: 20 mins – Lovely point by Paudie O’Sullivan for Cork as he breaks onto a good cross field pass by Brian Murphy.

Cork 0-7 Galway 0-6: 22 mins – Joe Canning tears through the Cork defence are being fed by Conor Cooney and smashes over a point. Hint of a goal threat there initially. One point in it and a fine contest so far.

Half a goal chance for Galway but Conor Cooney’s ground shot is blocked by Anthony Nash.

Cork 0-7 Galway 0-7: 25 mins – Nash is subsequently shouldered over the end line by Cooney and a ’65 is awarded which Canning converts to tie the match.

Cork 0-8 Galway 0-7: 26 mins – It’s an extremely tight match with Cork just back in front again. Patrick Horgan clips over a free after Conor Lehane was fouled.

Cork 0-9 Galway 0-7: 29 mins – Paudie O’Sullivan hits over his third point of the game after good interplay between his attacking colleagues Patrick Horgan and Luke O’Farrell.

Cork 0-9 Galway 0-9: 31 mins – Galway draw level when firstly David Burke outwits the Cork defence to point and then Joe Canning swings over a point from the Cusack Stand sideline.

Galway 0-10 Cork 0-10: 33 mins – Galway hit the front courtesy of Canning but the point originated from a terrific run forward by Damien Hayes. Cork respond instantly with Luke O’Farrell firing over his first point of the game after a good pass into space by Jamie Coughlan.

Galway 0-11 Cork 0-10: 34 mins – Galway back ahead as wing-forward David Burke finds his range to point.

Galway 0-11 Cork 0-11: 35 mins – We’re level again after Patrick Horgan points a free won by his club colleague Stephen McDonnell when he made a brilliant break from defence.

HALF-TIME: Cork 0-11 Galway 0-11: We’re level at the break after a gripping first-half between Cork and Galway. We’ll be back shortly with the second-half action but here’s the point scorers from the first-half.

Cork 0-12 Galway 0-11: 36 mins – Great start to the half for Cork with Paudie O’Sullivan racing clear before he is fouled by Johnny Coen and Patrick Horgan snaps the resultant free over the bar.

A fierce whip from the ground by Conor Cooney for Galway sees the ball flash across the goalmouth and just whistle wide.

Cork 0-12 Galway 0-12: 38 mins – Level pegging once more with Joe Canning banging over a free after he was dragged to the ground by Brian Murphy.

Galway 0-13 Cork 0-12: 39 mins – Damien Hayes edges Galway ahead when he points. It’s a really tight contest and it looks like the first goal will be a critical score.

Galway 0-14 Cork 0-12: 41 mins – Joe Canning lofts over a fine point for Galway after David Burke picked him out with an excellent pass.

Darren Sweetnam is coming on for Cork instead of Conor Lehane. Patrick Cronin is switched to the half-forward line with Sweetnam going in at midfield.

Galway 0-15 Cork 0-12: 46 mins – Sustained Galway pressure with Joe Canning at the heart of their attacks culminates in Niall Burke grabbing his first point of the game. They’ve opened up a three-point gap now.

Galway 0-15 Cork 0-13: 47 mins – A vital point for Cork by Patrick Horgan, from play, after Galway had opened up that lead.

Galway 0-16 Cork 0-13: 48 mins – Fine point for Galway from Niall Burke after he was fed by Johnny Coen who broke out of defence.

Cork’s deliveries into their attack have been poor in this second-half and they need to improve if they are to get the scores to work back into contention.

Galway 0-17 Cork 0-13: 52 mins – Galway point a ’65 through Joe Canning but the damage could have been far worse for Cork as they needed Anthony Nash to produce a point-blank save to deny Niall Burke the first goal of the game. Galway in the ascendancy though.

Galway 0-17 Cork 0-14: 53 mins – Cork needed that point with Darren Sweetnam showing the  composure to land a shot from the wing. Davy Glennon is on the Galway team for Conor Cooney.

Galway 0-18 Cork 0-14: 55 mins – Damien Hayes stretches Galway’s lead again with a point. Niall McCarthy replaces Jamie Coughlan on the Cork team.

Galway 0-18 Cork 0-15: 56 mins – Cork come so close to the first goal of the game. Anthony Nash’s huge free is caught by Patrick Cronin on the edge of the square and after he turns, his shot just flashes over the bar.

Galway 0-18 Cork 0-16: 57 mins – Another important point for Cork, this time from substitute Cathal Naughton.

Galway 0-19 Cork 0-16: 59 mins – That’s a brilliant point by James Regan for Galway, tearing through the defence and scoring under pressure.

Galway substitution sees Cyril Donnellan in for James Regan.

Galway 0-20 Cork 0-17: 63 mins – Anthony Nash fires over a stunning long-range free for Cork but Galway’s Andy Smith quickly cancels that out with a point.

Anthony Nash misses a chance to grab a point for Cork from a free around midfield.

Jonathan Glynn on for Galway instead of Niall Burke as Niall McCarthy misses a decent chance to point for Cork.

Paudie O’Sullivan has just received a yellow card for a late challenge on Galway’s Joe Canning, who is now on the ground receiving treatment. Daniel Kearney into the Cork team for Lorcan McLoughlin.
