DAVID MEYLER HASN’T only been producing top form for his country recently.
Having captained Ireland to a vital victory two days ago, Meyler has today been named Hull City’s player of the month for September.
The midfielder, Ireland’s stand-in skipper in the absence of the injured Seamus Coleman, produced an outstanding performance as Ireland secured a 1-0 win over Wales in Cardiff on Monday.
After picking up a yellow card late in the game, he’ll unfortunately miss the first leg of next month’s play-off, in which Ireland will bid for a place at the 2018 World Cup.
Hull City supporters have voted Meyler as their player of the month for September, the Championship club revealed this morning. He saw off competition from team-mates Jarrod Bowen, Allan McGregor and Fraizer Campbell to take the accolade.
Meyler played in all six of Hull’s games last month, scoring twice and claiming one assist in 395 minutes of action. He took 73% of the votes.
The 28-year-old Corkman will be hoping that Hull can improve their fortunes as they pursue a swift return to the Premier League under former Russia boss Leonid Slutsky.
With three wins from their 11 Championship games so far this season, the Tigers are in 17th place in England’s second tier.
