Defeat in what is their only game of the campaign at Parnell Park didn’t bear thinking about for Dubs boss Ger Cunningham, who watched his side turn in a commanding display in heavy conditions.

Inspired by attackers Niall McMorrow, David O’Callaghan and Eamonn Dillon who buzzed with intent throughout, Dublin led by three points at half-time.

And they ultimately sealed the victory with a brilliant third quarter performance when they outscored Galway by 1-5 to 0-1 in a decisive 16-minute period.

Sean McGrath scored Dublin’s 46th minute goal following a Mark Schutte lay-off and soon after they led by an impressive 10 points, 1-15 to 0-8.

It was a bad evening for Galway who came into the contest hoping to back up their win over Cork with another victory. They lost veteran Fergal Moore early on to an injury while Joe Canning, their talismanic if subdued forward, was taken off at half-time though it’s understood he was ill coming into the game.

In the seventh meeting of these teams in a little over 12 months, Dublin led by 0-10 to 0-7 at the break and looked slick and full of motivation from the off after losing to Tipp in Thurles in Round 1.
