Dundalk earned more last night than they would winning three league titles

The SSE Airtricity League Premier Division champions have already picked up over €6 million for their European achievements.

LAST NIGHT’S EUROPA League victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv will go down in Dundalk history as their greatest ever result.

Stephen Kenny’s became the first Irish club to win in the group stages of the competition thanks a 72nd-minute goal from substitute Ciaran Kilduff.

In doing so, the Lilywhites earned themselves a €360,000 win bonus following on from the €120,000 they claimed by drawing with AZ Alkmaar a fortnight ago.

To put that into perspective, it’s three times more than the €100,000 awarded for winning the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division title last year.

It brings their total European earnings this season up to around €6.78 million thanks to the €900,000 for qualifying for the Champions League third qualifying round, €3m for reaching the play-off with Legia Warsaw, and €2.4m for securing a place in the Europa League groups.

They must now have their sights on finishing second behind Group D leaders Zenit St Petersburg and progression to the knockout stages would bring more financial rewards.

Europa League prize money:

  • Win bonus: €360,000
  • Draw bonus: €120,000
  • Round of 32: €500,000
  • Round of 16: €750,000
  • Quarter-finals: €1,000,000
  • Semi-finals: €1,500,000
  • Losing finalist: €3,500,000
  • Winners: €6,500,000
