LONDON’S CALLING FOR Mark Kenneally after he booked his spot at next summer’s Olympics with a confident performance in the Amsterdam Marathon.

The Celbridge native shaved over three minutes off his most recent qualification attempt this morning, making the grade in 18th place with a time of 2:13.55.

Keneally’s time was a minute and five seconds under the Olympic A standard of 2:15.00. However, Ireland’s other contender in Holland, Gary Thornton, will have to try again after he could only manage a time of 2:19:27 and 29th place.

Nine of the race’s first 10 places were filled by Kenyan athletes, with Wilson Chebet (2:05.53) leading home fellow countrymen Laban Korir and Eric Ndiema in the medal positions.
