Ex-Connacht hooker in critical condition after suffering stroke

The province have wished Ethienne Reynecke a speedy recovery.

FORMER CONNACHT HOOKER Ethienne Reynecke is in a critical condition due to a blood clot on his brain.

The 36-year-old suffered a stroke last Thursday and is currently in intensive care in a South African hospital, according to Sport24.

Reynecke’s condition has been described as stable, but doctors have been unable to operate because of the swelling on his brain.

The Johannesburg native made 44 appearances for Connacht during two seasons in Galway after joining from the Stormers in 2011.

The western province have sent their best wishes to their former player.

As well as his spell in Ireland, Reynecke also played for Premiership club Saracens and Pau in France, before hanging up his boots in 2013 to move into commentary with South African broadcaster SuperSport.
