FABIAN DELPH WAS supposed to join Manchester City last weekend when a £8 million deal was seemingly agreed. But something went awry. The midfielder didn’t complete his medical and the move collapsed.
Delph later issued a statement saying he wanted to ‘set the record straight’.
“I’m not leaving”, he said.
“I’m staying at the football club and I can’t wait for the start of the season and captaining this great football club.”
But now it seems he’s had a change of heart.
The 25-year-old is definitely having a medical at the Etihad Stadium and looks set to complete his switch to Manuel Pellegrini’s side sooner rather than later.
In January, Delph signed a four-and-a-half year contract with Villa but many felt that was to ensure the club received a substantial fee for him rather than lose him for nothing this summer.
At the time, he had the following to say:
‘I’m proving that there still is loyalty in football. I’ve decided to stay here and I’ll give nothing less than 100 per cent every game.
I am a loyal person and committing my future will hopefully show everybody what type of guy I am.”
“I feel like this is me – I love the club, I love being here and I want to put 100 per cent into everything I do here. This is my club and I want to be here. That’s why I am committing my future.”
