MANCHESTER CITY BEAT Swansea 3-2 at the Liberty Stadium thanks to a superbly struck drive from Brazilian midfielder Luis Fernandinho and strikes from Yaya Toure and Aleksandar Kolarov.

Fernandinho’s half volley was the first Premier League goal of the year. Swan’s striker Wilfried Bony equalised on the stroke of half-time and the game is all square up until City struck twice in eight minutes midway through the second half. Bony belted in a sweet second in injury time but it proved a mere consolation as City climbed to the Premier League summit

City have made all of the early running and were rewarded on 14 minutes when Fernandinho reacted smartly to a half-cleared corner.

Toure’s goal — his 10th of the league season — was well-struck and Swansea boss Michael Laudrup will be upset at how Kolarov was allowed to wander from his own half, cut in from the left wing and score with his right foot from the edge of the box.

Bony’s late effort was a swerving strike that Joe Hart had little chance of saving. City boss Manuel Pellegrini, aware of the importance of the three points, gave a triumphant first pump at the final whistle.
