GRAEME MCDOWELL RECORDED an eight-under round of 64 to move into contention ahead of the final round of the HSBC World Championships in Shanghai.

The Northern Irishman was on -12 when he teed up at the 16th, a reachable, 288-yard par four. His drive was just short of the mark and ended up in the greenside bunker. McDowell settled himself in and produced a wonderful, sand-wedge chip to deposit the ball and claim an excellent eagle. Who needs putters when golf is this simple?

McDowell finished his third round on -14 and is four shots adrift of America’s Dustin Johnson.
