IRISH MIDFIELDER GRAHAM Carey has ended speculation over his future by signing a ‘significantly improved’ deal with Plymouth Argyle, a day before his current contract was due to expire.
After helping Plymouth to promotion to League One last term, the 28-year-old Dubliner was the subject of interest from several clubs, including Sheffield United, but has now put pen-to-paper on renewed terms at Home Park.
Carey scored 14 league goals in 46 appearances for Plymouth last season and his performances for the Pilgrims meant the club were desperate to retain his services for a third campaign.
The former Ireland U21 international moved to Plymouth in 2015 after starting his career with Celtic and had previous spells with Huddersfield, St Mirren and Ross County.
In total, Carey has made 100 appearances for the League One outfit since his arrival, scoring 27 goals, and his decision to stay at the club for the 2017/18 season is a huge boost for manager Derek Adams.
Plymouth get their campaign underway against Peterborough United on Saturday 5 August.
