Harrington wary of Tiger threat

European wild card pick gives ringing endorsement to US wildcard, also says he’s building up to a big Ryder Cup.

PADRAIG HARRINGTON HAS warned his European Ryder Cup teammates to beware a rejuvenated Tiger Woods at next month’s Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.

“He’ll be in fighting mood, in a mood to perform. The Ryder Cup could be the pinnacle of his year, like it could be for me” said Harrington.

Woods has not won a tournament in 2010, but Harrington is adamant that US Captain Corey Pavin made the right choice in selecting the troubled golfer.

“He is the number one golfer in the world and he’s been showing good form of late. He has a presence and intimidation factor. Matchplay will suit him. I think he’s going to be strong enough to stand up on the tee box against anybody. Certainly no bookmaker will make him a longshot in his singles match.”

Harrington also said that, like Woods, he is working toward the Ryder Cup being the pinnacle of his season. “I’m hoping for the Ryder Cup to be my peak this year. I’m working towards that and definitely there’s a sense of expectation.”
