IT’S BEEN A memorable week for Bournemouth as their fairytale story continued with a famous victory over Manchester United – but there were emotional scenes at full-time for an entirely different reason.
As Harry Arter made his way off the pitch after another imposing performance, the Dean Court faithful rose to their feet in appreciation of the display from the Irish midfielder.
But it was a sombre moment for Arter at the end of a week of unimaginable grief for him and his family.
The 25-year-old and his partner lost their child at birth and he made the brave decision to make himself available for selection for today’s game.
He played a central role in his side’s 2-1 defeat of Man United, a victory which boosts their survival chances, but at times sport can become irrelevant.
Arter returned to the field at full-time and shared a poignant moment with his manager Eddie Howe as he fought back the tears.
An incredibly courageous performance at the end of a week of unspeakable personal tragedy.
