There was an ugly tip-tackle in Super Rugby earlier but should Ian Prior be banned?

The younger brother of Ulster’s Nick Williams was on the receiving end.

THE CHIEFS MOVED to the top of the Super Rugby table this morning with a 35-27 win over the Force in Hamilton but they were given a helping hand by the most idiotic red card you’re likely to see.

The Force scrum-half, Ian Prior, received his marching orders shortly before the half hour mark for a needless and reckless tip-tackle on Tim Nanai-Williams.

Nanai-Williams received a pop pass from a ruck and although he knocked it on, Prior still proceeded to lift his opponent up by his legs and then drive him into the turf.

Despite landing on his head and shoulder, Nanai-Williams was thankfully able to play on but Prior will now face a disciplinary hearing charged with Law 10.4 (j):

Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground such that the player’s head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play.

Do you think he deserves a ban or was it an honest mistake?
