On his first start since December, Man City's Ilkay Gundogan forced off with another injury

It’s been a long road back for the German since suffering knee ligament damage last season.

MANCHESTER CITY MAY have booked a place in the next round of the League Cup tonight but the club’s main concern will be another injury to midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The German was making his first start since last December but was forced off after an hour of his side’s 2-1 victory over West Brom after a challenge from Claudio Yacob.

Gundogan suffered cruciate ligament damage in a Premier League game against Watford on 14 December and has battled back to full fitness in the last few weeks, coming on as a substitute in last weekend’s big win over the same opposition.

But though he was able to hobble off the pitch at the Hawthorns, he had received treatment for quite a while and looked in considerable pain.

After the game, Pep Guardiola revealed that early indications suggested the injury wasn’t too serious and that Gundogan may be out for a month.

Gundogan saw his shot saved by Ben Foster after just three minutes but the rebound fell to Leroy Sane who put City ahead.

However, Yacob equalised for the Baggies with under 20 minutes to go before Sane grabbed a brace just five minutes later to assure Guardiola’s side a fourth-round meeting with Wolves at the Etihad Stadium.
