Young striker Michael Obafemi reflects on a successful night in the #FAYouthCup, after his second-half treble inspired a convincing #SaintsFC win: pic.twitter.com/j5AbGjJTpw
THE LACK OF top-class Irish strikers in recent years has been well documented, though there thankfully appear to be a few promising up-and-coming attackers at underage level.
Cork native Adam Idah recently registered an impressive hat-trick in the FA Youth Cup and another talented teenager, Michael Obafemi, has now followed suit.
The 17-year-old, who has represented Ireland at underage level, looks a hot prospect on the evidence of Southampton’s 4-1 victory over Wolves.
Obafemi, who has now reached double figures in his overall tally this season, twice showed blistering pace to get away from the opponents’ defence before finishing coolly.
He then completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in injury time, ensuring a comfortable win for the Saints.
