CAVAN’S JOE MCQUILLAN will take charge of this year’s All-Ireland senior football final between Dublin and Mayo.
The teams meet in Croke Park on Saturday September 22nd and it will be McQuillan who will referee the game.
The GAA have confirmed the appointment this afternoon and it will mark McQuillan’s second time in charge of an All-Ireland final.
He previously took charge of the 2011 final between Dublin and Kerry. Other major games that the Kill Shamrock’s club man has refereed include the All-Ireland U21 final in 2006 and the All Ireland senior club final in 2008.
This summer he has taken charge of the All-Ireland senior quarter-final tie between Mayo and Donegal and the Round 3 qualifier between Kildare and Tyrone.
His main provincial assignments were the Leinster semi-final involving Dublin and Kildare and the Ulster Senior quarter-final when Donegal took on Tyrone.
His umpires on the day will be Tommy O’Reilly, Ciarán Brady, TP Gray (all Kill Shamrocks) and Jimmy Galligan (Killygarry).
Meath’s Cormac Reilly will be the standby referee, the other linesman is Padraig O’Sullivan (Kerry) and the sideline official will be Michael Duffy (Sligo).
Cork’s Conor Lane will referee the All-Ireland minor final between Mayo and Tyrone, which will be the curtain-raiser on September 22nd.
