Premier League website prematurely announces Jose Mourinho as new Chelsea boss

The date for the erroneous story read Monday June 3.

IT’S ONE OF football’s worst-kept secrets that Jose Mourinho is likely to become the new Chelsea boss.

However, at least one outlet has mistakenly interpreted these rumours as fact.

The Premier League’s official website last night erroneously published a story suggesting Mourinho had been confirmed as the London club’s new manager.

The story, which has since been taken down, was dated June 3, and left a space for the number of his years that his contract would be.

The opening lines of the story read:

“Jose Mourinho has returned to Stamford Bridge after agreeing to take over as Chelsea manager for the second time.

“The 50-year-old Portuguese, who guided Chelsea to back-to-back Barclays Premier League titles in his first two seasons in charge, returns to the west London club after an absence of almost six-years.”

The Portuguese manager is, however, expected to travel to London today, with a view to signing a deal to become the next Chelsea manager.

The coach was booed by Real Madrid fans last night, as he took charge of the club for the final time, with his side ultimately beating Osasuna 4-2.
