A LEINSTER SCHOOLS hurling game in Thomastown in Kilkenny was abandoned today early in the second half after an injury to a player from Wexford school, Good Counsel (New Ross).

Jim Ryan, a player from Kilkenny club Rower-Inistioge, suffered a head injury in the Leinster SAHC semi-final between Good Counsel and Kilkenny CBS, but thankfully it has emerged that he has not suffered a serious injury.

The incident occurred early in the second half and the player was not moved as precaution with an ambulance called to treat him. The match was subsequently abandoned by the referee after a lengthy delay.

Kilkenny CBS were in front at the time by 2-5 to 0-3. The game is now set to be replayed with a date yet to be confirmed.

The other Leinster semi-final saw reigning All-Ireland champions St Kieran’s see off St Peter’s (Wexford) by 1-18 to 1-7 in a game played in Fenagh in Carlow.

The teams were tied at 1-6 to 0-9 at the interval but St Peter’s only managed a single second-half point as St Kieran’s upped the ante to run out 11-point victors.

In Pearse Stadium, St Brigid’s (Loughrea) were crowned Connacht schools hurling champions with a narrow 1-12 to 0-14 victory over Presentation Athenry.

St Brigid’s were ahead 1-5 to 0-7 at the break and maintained that advantage to the finish.
