CORK CITY KEPT in touch with rivals Dunalk in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division title race thanks to a 3-0 victory over Longford Town at City Calling Stadium.

Sean Maguire, Mark O’Sullivan and Stephen Dooley all scored second half goals after Longford’s Tristan Noack Hofman had been given his marching orders by referee Derek Tomney.

The 17-year-old defender picked up a second yellow card on 34 minutes after a foul on Steven Beattie meaning Tony Cousin’s side had to play the entire second half with ten men.

It was Maguire who struck first on 57 minutes when he lobbed goalkeeper Paul Skinner. Substitute O’Sullivan, who had provided an assist for the opener, doubled their advantage by heading home Kevin O’Connor’s free-kick.

And Dooley wrapped up the result seven minutes from the full time whistle after being fed a through-ball by Maguire.

Cork meet leaders Dundalk at Turner’s Cross this Friday night.
