The 21-year-old attacking sensation, who joined Real Madrid from Mallorca for €3.9 million in 2014, continued his knack for scoring big goals with a stunning strike in last night’s Super Cup second leg victory over Barcelona.

Just four minutes into Wednesday’s game at the Santiago Bernabeu, Asensio picked up the ball 30 yards out before launching a dipping strike past the rooted Marc-Andre ter Stegen in a 2-0 win — 5-1 on aggregate.

Also on target in the first leg, the Spanish international had earned a remarkable record of scoring on his debut in five different competitions — La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup and Uefa Super Cup.

To make matters worse for Barca, they reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign him before his move to the Spanish capital.

“My two goals in the Spanish Super Cup were great and I will look back on them fondly,” he said afterwards. “The fans show us incredible support and so naturally we want to reward them with titles. ”

We were playing at home and had to really turn it on, and we created opportunities, we played the better football over the tie.”

With Madrid’s title defence beginning against Deportivo La Coruna this weekend, there is a real sense that Zinedine Zidane’s side — league champions and Champions League winners last season — can further strengthen their place as one of the all-time great sides.

And Asensio is likely to play a significant role, with Gareth Bale’s spot in the team possibly under threat.
