ITALY FULLBACK ANDREA MASI has been voted the player of the Six Nations by supporters in an online poll.

Masi held off the challenge of teammate Fabio Semenzato to become the first Italian to win the award, securing 30% of the vote on the competition’s official website.

Masi, who scored two tries in the Six Nations, says the accolade “is a fantastic way to end what has been one of the most competitive championships I can remember.”

Italy finished bottom of the table on points difference but beat France for the first time in the competition, sneaking a 21-20 win in Rome. Masi on the man-of-the-match award in that game.

Ireland flanker Sean O’Brien came third and England flyhalf Toby Flood finished fourth.
