Here's what you need to know if you're planning to watch Mayweather v Pacquiao

What are your plans for this weekend’s highly-anticipated fight? We want to know.

Mayweather Pacquiao Boxing John Locher John Locher

IT IS UNDOUBTEDLY the hottest ticket in town, wait… on earth, this weekend.

Dubbed ‘The Fight of the Century’, two of the biggest names in boxing, WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao, finally face off for the first time at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Most will tell you the bout comes five years too late, but that hasn’t deterred fans. While only the richest and most famous can even think about getting involved in the scramble for tickets, the rest of us will have to settle for watching it on pay-per-view.

The build-up starts at midnight Irish time while the undercard is due to kick off at 2.15am. Of those six fights, only two will be televised:

  • Vasyl Lomachenko v Gamalier Rodriguez (WBO Featherweight title)
  • Leo Santa Cruz v Jose Cayetano (WBC Super Bantamweight title)

Depending on how that goes, the main event is set to begin in and around 4am Irish time (8pm locally).

Those planning to tune in from the comfort of their homes will have to pay €24.95 to Sky or UPC for the PPV event (unless you find yourself an illegal stream), which is being shown on Sky Sports Box Office in this part of the world.

There will also be repeats throughout Sunday on that channel (10am, 1pm, 7pm, 10pm) if you’re not keen on staying up late.

If, on the other hand, you are looking to catch it elsewhere, your options are limited. We made a number of phone calls and discovered that many pubs and nightclubs around the country will not be showing the fight due to fact that it doesn’t get underway until the early hours of the morning.

However, the following spots are planning to screen the event:

  • The Living Room, Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin
  • Harry’s on the Green, South King Street, Dublin
  • Sinnotts Bar, South King Street, Dublin
  • Fitzwilliam Casino, Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin
  • Quay Casino, Monk Street, Wexford
  • Waterford Airport Business Park (More info here)
