IRELAND’S MONA MCSHARRY has pocketed another medal — this time a silver one — at the European Junior Championhips in Isreal.

The 16-year-old Marlins (Ballyshannon) swimmer native set her second senior national record of the week in the 200m Breaststroke earlier today, with a time of 2.27.44, which broke Fiona Doyle’s previous record by over a second.

The Sligo native lost out on a second European gold medal to Great Britain’s Layla Black, and finished just 0.13 behind the winner.

McSharry secured a gold medal in the 50m Breastroke on Wednesday, and is yet to compete in the 100m Breastroke event.

The heats take place tomorrow, with the final set for Sunday afternoon.

Bethel concluded her championships with a 2.04.32 swim in the fastest heat of the 200m Freestyle, finishing 24th overall, while Templeogue’s Walshe clocked 1.02.11 in the 100m Butterfly heats.
