TIPPERARY HURLER NOEL McGrath has been lauded for the courage he is shown in battling testicular cancer.

It was announced in April by the Tipperary county board that McGrath was set to undergo surgery for testicular cancer.

McGrath was present in Croke Park yesterday at the launch of the GPA’s new partnership with the Childhood Cancer Foundation to help support Ireland’s fight against childhood cancer.

GPA CEO Dessie Farrell revealed the players body have been in contact with the 24 year-old.

“We have been in touch with Noel over the course of the last while. He is (doing well) yeah.

“He has been through a very difficult time but has showed great courage and was very keen to get involved today and help out in some small way.

There is a greater learning for us all in Noel’s situation in terms of mens’ health and how they deal with situations that may emerge.

“Noel was lucky in that he was proactive and went and got his issue seen too and as a result of that the outcome will be positive please God.”

Farrell outlined the benefits for GAA players in being involved with charity partnerships.

“We are active in the area of social responsibility. We believe strongly in it and it’s great for players.

“Not alone is it good for organisations they work with in terms of bringing profile and awareness, it is also good for the individuals themselves.

“Many athletes can live in a bubble and it can bring a sense of perspective with these types of initiatives.

“CCF (Childhood Cancer Foundation) is a great organisation. In many ways the kids who have gone through treatment and their families are an inspiration for many of us.

“We’re delighted to be involved with them and help them in any way we can.”
