FORMER ENGLAND FOOTBALLER Paul Gascoigne was taken to hospital following a drunken brawl at a hotel last night, according to reports.

The 49-year-old was supposedly ‘racially abusing’ customers at the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, east London, and throwing money at them, according to a witness.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were called to a disturbance at the hotel shortly after 6pm on Tuesday after reports that a man was assaulted, before a 49-year-old man was taken to hospital with a head injury.

“Gazza”, who has battled alcoholism for two decades, was reportedly then rushed to an east London hospital with a head injury.

Witness Alvin Carpio was in the hotel at the time of the incident, and sent tweets from his personal account.

He said that the former England and Newcastle United midfielder was “causing trouble”.

The Daily Mirror reported that Paul’s spokesperson Terry Baker had confirmed that the troubled star had been taken to hospital with a head wound.

“He hasn’t been arrested. He’s about to be released and sent home,” he added.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman also said earlier that “the man has been taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.”

No arrests have been made and inquiries are ongoing, she added.
