ASTON VILLA MANAGER Paul Lambert has warned Roy Keane’s critics to “take cover” ahead of the release of the former Ireland player’s autobiography next week.

The current Aston Villa and Ireland assistant boss has been known to show brutal honesty during his career as a player, manager and pundit, while he has had a tense relationship with a number of well-known figures in the game, most notably his former boss at Man United Alex Ferguson.

With ‘The Second Half’ — his collaboration with acclaimed author Roddy Doyle — set to come out on 9 October, Lambert has told reporters he expects plenty of fireworks.

“I’ve seen bits of it,” Lambert said. “And it’ll be… aye… listen, take cover like. It will be good reading put it that way. Great night-time reading.”

When asked if he’d have to censor the book, Lambert said: “I’m pretty sure it will be alright,” while adding that he doesn’t expect to feature too prominently in the story.

“He’s got a full stop dedicated to me,” the Scottish boss joked.

And despite Keane’s reputation as an intense and somewhat difficult character, Lambert says they get on fine together at Villa.

“He’s been really great round about the place.

“We have a good laugh, it’s not all serious. He’s got great experience of football, a great guy to have beside me.”
